Green Protein Smoothie

This green smoothie is packed with protein… a perfect start of the day, and so delicious too.

I created this on a whim many years ago and it’s something my family and I still enjoy. In fact, this was my then-toddler’s first time trying spinach, and I was one happy mama when I gobbled this up (in a bowl, then), and said he loved it! he still loves it to this day and so do I.

For those who love to have a smoothie for breakfast (I am now one of those people), you’ll also be happy that this is not full of fruit and hence full of “sugar”. I know some people complain that smoothies, especially for breakfast, should not be full of fruit due to its high sugar content. I am not one of those people, but if you are, you’ll love this one!

Spinach is so good for us (just ask Popeye), full of protein, calcium, magnesium, folate, Vitamin A… the list goes on! It also vitamin K, fibre, phosphorus, and thiamine.

Chia seeds are full of goodness too, as well as a generous helping of fibre, almond butter and almond milk has vitamin E, omega-3s, so this is a real great breakfast smoothie, or even an afternoon snack! I hope you enjoy this as much as we do…

Green Protein Smoothie

Serves 1

Ingredients

  • 1 large banana
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds
  • 1 large handful of baby spinach
  • 1/2 cup of almond milk

Method

1. Place all ingredients in your blender. Blend until smooth and consume immediately.

If you like your smoothies to be more like a drink, add more almond milk until your desired consistency. You can top off the smoothie with blueberries, chopped almonds and other toppings too if you’ll like to pack even more nutrients.

If you’re into into bananas, you can omit the banana from the smoothie and just add more almond milk and almond butter for more of a lighter, smoother drink. But I personally love banana and feel that’s what makes this filling so you don’t get hungry so quick. Enjoy!
